Reference: New Orleans Notarial Archives, Planbook Drawings, planbook 18, folio 10 & planbook 27, folio 2 (March 4th 1837 & April 14th 1837) for other plans by Vergnes VERGNES, Architect and engineer, late inspector of the Grand Opera of Paris, will take orders for all what relates to his art, such as plans, buildings and adornings of any nature. His office is at the Exchange Place near St. Louis Street, on the right hand side. This ambitious design, for what seems to be an apartment block by the river Mississippi. It is designed in accordance with the most fashionable French colonial style, reflecting the position of New Orleans as a great trading port with the East. It anticipates the famous Pontalbon Buildings in Jackson Square of a decade later. In March 1837, Vergnes submitted plans and an indication drawing for a lot from his office at 104 Chartres Street, French Quarter, New Orleans. Again, on April 14th 1837 M Vergnes, architecte submitted a plan for 11 bare lots in a suburb of New Orleans from his address at Passage de la Bourse (Exchange Alley), New Orleans.
