Adolf Liebscher was born in Prague. He painted the majority of the frescoes in the National Theatre in Prague and at the Town Hall in Cologne. Always an inquisitive and inventive explorer in the techniques of artistic creation, Adolph Liebscher was also a very fine illustrator. Included amongst this body of his works is an important album illustrating the costumes of the Slavic community. In 1904 the series Elégie de Bohême was seen for the first time. The sketches were done in tempera and then worked into finer oil versions.
