Richard James Lane was a prominent engraver and sculptor. He engraved works after Landseer, Leslie, Lawrence and Gainsborough, his great-uncle. He was associated to the Royal Academy in 1827 and nominated the Queen's lithographer in 1837, which put him in high standing in society.
