Pompeo Massani was a Florentine painter of landscapes and genre subjects. He was taught at the Academia delle Belle Arti in Florence and was a pupil of the painter Gordigiani. He received public recognition and his works were much sought after during his lifetime. His paintings gained him numerous prizes including: a silver medal at the Esposizione di Rovigo of 1879 with his painting La Politica in Canonica (Politics within the Church) and the first prize with Un Brindisi al Frate (A Toast to the Monk) which was shown at the Esposizione di Genova in 1881.
