Thomas Faed was a Scottish painter of domestic genre and highland scenes. Thomas was the younger brother of John Faed, they both studied together in Edinburgh, and then Thomas was taught by Sir William Allan and Thomas Duncan. Many of John and Thomas's compositions were engraved by the third brother James Faed. Thomas established his popularity in 1855 with The Mitherless Bairn, which became widely known through engravings. He exhibited nearly one hundred works at the Royal Academy between 1851 and 1893.
