Yu Jinyoung b.1977 is a Korean-based artist who puts the interest on human identity.
Her works reveal loneliness and coldness with which people in modern society inevitably
confront. In other words, Yu’s work deals with the matter of isolation and individualism in
our current society. The artist emphasizes to the viewer her issues she sees in
communication between people. She observes the hypocritical acts of the modern man
and her observations are expressed on the expressionless faces of her transparent
sculptures. The dolls are decorated in floral patterns. The transparent body speaks of
anonymity and emptiness disguised by too much make-up and her splendid decorations.
My creations represent those who have chosen to be apart from others as if they are
invisible or non-existent beings. They, instead of adapting themselves to the human
society, enter into their own personal space avoiding others' interruptions.

Yu Jinyoung majored in sculpture and has recently exhibited her works in Seoul, Osaka
and London.
